DyslexiaDoorand Life Skills Therapy"As a Davis facilitator, I treat my clients--young and old--with respect: You are no less intelligent than your friends. You have a challenge and a gift. So let's use your gift to master your challenge!" "As a counselor, I view my clients as unique individuals: There is no one else like you. You are the only You on this entire planet. You are entitled to claim your rightful place." --Wayne Aadelstone-Hassel ___________________________________________________________________
About Wayne Mr. Aadelstone-Hassel's background is in private school teaching. He has taught children from Grades 1 through 9 in a wide range of major academic subjects (language arts, math, sciences, as well as art). Since his retirement from teaching, he has worked with clients from ages six to sixty-six helping them master dyslexia in its many different manifestations. When Wayne Aadelstone-Hassel left the classroom, he went on a quest. He was searching for a way to help those children whom he and his fellow teachers had not been able to help. Here is how Wayne describes his search: Anyone who has ever seen children (or adults) struggle with one or another learning difficulty will know what agony it can inflict on their young lives and what damage it can do to their self-image. When I retired from teaching, I was repeatedly asked whether I would now want to do some tutoring. Actually, I did not. I had seen • too many children • achieve too little • with too much pain Aware of this sad pattern, I vowed to steer clear of tutoring work unless I could find an approach that could prove its effectiveness to me. As good fortune would have it, the parents of one of my former students introduced me to a program which had worked wonders for their own child. While looking into this mysterious method, I heard more and more equally encouraging tales. And then I discovered the bonus: This method involved neither tutoring nor learning by rote or drill. It was actually fun! More than that, it was the key to solving the riddle of dyslexia and other learning challenges for both children and adults. After completing his intensive Davis training in San Francisco and Vancouver, Mr. Aadelstone-Hassel was licensed as a Davis Dyslexia Correction® Facilitator in 2001. Over the years, he has conducted a great number of highly successful Davis programs, addressing academic challenges and the damage they can do to a child's or an adult's self-image. ___________________________________________________________________ Self-confidence is one of the fringe benefits of a Davis Program. In my view, academic success can come only when self-confidence begins to stir. Yes, the techniques and exercises in a Davis Program have academic goals, but by their very nature they first foster the arising of self-confidence. --Wayne Aadelstone-Hassel ___________________________________________________________________ WHAT DYSLEXIADOOR OFFERSDyslexiaDoor offers the following professional services for children and adults: A Free 2-hour Assessment Davis Dyslexia Correction® Program Davis Math Mastery™ Program Davis Attention Mastery™ Program Competent program delivery by a certified teacher A Davis-licensed facilitator attuned to working with children of all ages A facilitator well-versed in school expectations A facilitator with a proven track record with adult clients A facilitator with a long list of successful Davis programs Ongoing telephone consultation and support during the home phase of the program up to eighteen months, as needed Three additional follow-up sessions, as requested by the client Where no support person is available, DyslexiaDoor offers individual sessions at reasonable rates.
